Queen Máxima opens the “greenest cheese factory in the world”
In the presence of numerous guests and in bright autumn weather, Her Majesty the Dutch Queen Máxima opened the “greenest cheese factory in the world” on November 13, 2014 in West Beemster in North Holland. It was built by the small cooperative dairy Cono Kaasmakers, manufacturer of the premium cheese brand “Beemster” and holder of the honorary title “royal court supplier”.
Her Majesty symbolically put this sustainable cheese factory into operation with a pressure on a bar bell that stood on a tower made of cheese wheels. During the subsequent tour of the glass visitor aisle with a view of the production, accompanied by the cheese dairy director, Eric Hulst, and the chairman of the coooperative Klaas Sluis, Máxima asked numerous questions about Beemster’s special artisan cheese production. Most recently, she visited the , the cheese shop, and showed a special skill in cutting a 13 kg loaf of cheese. Beemster and Cono Kaasmakers would like to share his joy about the event with everyone in the world with the song “Say Cheese to the world”, which was created especially for the opening.
